ABOUT ME
My journey to becoming a registered clinical counselor was a natural progression from my past 20 plus years of experience working within the field of child and youth care in diverse mental health settings. Which led to me opening Kerry Moon Counselling.

My passion lies in supporting children, youth, adults, and families. Through years of professional and personal experience, I became a strong advocate for the well-being of the entire family system. As I have seen how personal change can influence other areas of our lives.

In the past, I have utilized various therapeutic supports for my own healing and growth, as well as in supporting others in their personal growth and healing. These supports were instrumental in overcoming interpersonal challenges, providing me with insights into how they can be a crucial and helpful tool for others facing their own obstacles.
While having the privilege of supporting both children and youth along with their families, I have witnessed that in our lowest and darkest moments we have an innate ability to create change.
I believe that people already have in themselves their inner resources to seek healing and increase their health and well-being.

I am currently practicing in the Cowichan Valley and I look forward to continuing to support individuals on their journey towards creating the change they hope to see.
My Approach
I have been fortunate to have guidance over the years from mentors with whom I have developed a collaborative and relational strengths-based approach. I provide a trauma-informed approach combined with modalities such as Somatic practices, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Interpersonal and strength-based approaches.

I have completed my Equine Facilitated Wellness Training (EFW) through Generation Farms. Where my work with horses has allowed me to integrate both somatic and mindfulness approaches. These approaches are rooted in the works of people such as Peter Levine (somatic experiencing) and Stephen Porges (poly-vagal theory and drawing from mindfulness practices and their application to mental health (Daniel Siegel, Jon Kabat-Zinn, and others). This type of therapy explores the nervous system as a foundation of change and can offer a different angle in traditional talk therapy.

While focusing on positive change my hope is to provide an environment where you feel safe, heard, validated, and supported as you discover your own inner strengths and abilities to create a deeper sense of connection to self and others.
My Education
I completed my Degree in Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria, BC, and my Masters in Clinical Psychology at Yorkville University, NB.

I am also a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).
